The SUNY Empire Disability & Accessibility Club (DAC) is more than just a gathering place—it’s a community where individuals with disabilities find support, friendship, and empowerment. We aim to provide a safe and inclusive environment where members can share experiences, discuss challenges, and celebrate achievements.

One of our keys goals is advocacy. Members will work together to raise awareness about accessibility issues, promote disability rights, and educate the broader community. Through events, workshops, and campaigns, these clubs help break down societal barriers, dispel the stigma of disability, and foster inclusion.

Support and encouragement are also vital aspects of our group. Whether through peer mentorship, group activities or discussions, we will provide support to individuals who may otherwise feel isolated. We will also provide members with resources to support self-advocacy in various environments, including healthcare, education, and employment.

Beyond advocacy and support, the DAC will organize recreational and social activities, ensuring that our members can engage in fun and fulfilling experiences; from sport events and art show to career development programs. These activities help build confidence and encourage personal growth.

By fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment, our club plays a crucial role in creating a more inclusive student body. Whether you’re someone with a disability, a caregiver, or an ally, joining our club is a meaningful way to contribute to a world where everyone has equal opportunities to thrive.

Our esports program began with participation in the 2020 SUNY Chancellor's Esports Challenge, with 10 teams representing Empire State University. In 2021, we became members of the ECAC esports conference, which includes more than 90 colleges. We hope to expand the number of titles we play in, as well as improve our placement in future.

The Peer Mediation Program at SUNY Empire will train student leaders to help support their peers in working together and collaborating to resolve disputes. Participation in peer mediation would be voluntary and all matters discussed in mediation sessions remain confidential, with the exception of information that is potentially illegal and/or life-threatening. Student mediators should strive to be non-judgmental and do not serve to offer advice, but to support individuals in revealing the cause of conflict.

The Student Government Association at Empire State University (SGA) is an autonomous organization within the Empire State University community, deriving its power from the student body. The SGA shall work closely with the University administration, faculty, staff, student body, and alumni to foster a spirit of community, diversity, and fellowship and to create programs, events, and services for the benefit of all members of the University community.
